Mass NOW Community, we can't be neutral.
“If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the
side of the oppressor.” Desmond Tutu
Dear Mass NOW Community,
Today is Monday but we cannot return to work, business as usual. We are mourning the murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Nina Pop, Breonna Taylor and countless other Black and Brown people who've been victims of state sanctioned violence. This is not new, or surprising - as Will Smith says, it's just being filmed. Mass NOW joins NOW chapters across the country in demanding the police perpetrators be brought to justice.
Mass NOW commits to not let this moment pass us by in silence. Racial justice is a feminist issue. Police brutality is a feminist issue. Finding ways to dismantle white supremacy in our personal lives, workplaces, communities & local, state & federal government is a feminist issue. As a mostly white led organization, we commit to working in coalition and following the lead of black and brown organizations in our community. We urge everyone to find some way to take action in our shared fight for racial justice and gender equality.
Donate: Please consider donating to black-led organizations like Minnesota-based Black Visions Collective or Boston-based Violence in Boston and to jail funds across the country.
Protest: If you are attending a protest please follow these best practices and beware of alt-right infiltrators.
Allies, educate yourself: The Mass NOW board uses these two resources in our ongoing racial justice work:
Opportunities for White People in the Fight for Racial Justice: Moving from Actor --> Ally --> Accomplice
On behalf of the Mass NOW Leadership Board, thank you for being a part of the Mass NOW community.
